The ‘Extreme Demand Avoidance Questionnaire’ (EDA-Q) was designed to quantify traits of extreme/‘pathological’ demand avoidance in children aged 5-17 for research purposes.
The EDA-Q has now been superseded by a shorter version, the EDA-8 which contains only 8 of the original 26 items. More information on the EDA-8 and translations can be found here. The items dropped from the EDA-Q were those which showed less consistency with child age, gender, ability or independence. The items retained were found to cover the features consistently described in accounts of PDA. The EDA-8 is designed for research purposes and has not been tested in clinical settings.
The PDA society have also produced helpful a resource on identifying PDA here.
If you would like to translate the EDA-8 into other languages (or already have a translated version, and are willing to share it), please get in touch with me: e.onions@ucl.ac.uk
